SHS Research Centres: Performing a literature search for a Systematic Review

This workshop is for researchers from the eight SHS Research Centres. It will cover all the steps involved in performing a literature search for a Systematic Review.

Contents

  • The difference between Literature Reviews and Systematic Reviews
  • Formulating an effective research question, including the use of frameworks such as PICO
  • Performing a scoping search to check the validity of your research question
  • Developing a search strategy, including finding relevant search terms and selecting databases
  • Searching databases using a combination of controlled vocabulary and free text searching
  • Supplementing your database searches through citation and reference tracking and searching grey literature
