Finding open access resources for your research

Open Access (OA) is the free and unrestricted online access to publications at the point of use: to read, download and re-use content if appropriate, this is subject to the correct attribution.

This workshop covers finding different types of online open access content for example using CityLibrary Search, databases and journals; institutional and disciplinary repositories and the use of browser extensions such as LibKey Nomad (for free and  City's subscribed to content) and Unpaywall to locate free content.

We will look at the following:

  • What is open access?  Green and gold open access.
  • Benefits and challenges of open access
  • Institutional repositories and disciplinary repositories
  • Using browser extensions
  • Searching City open access content
  • Using Google Scholar for free content

You will also have the chance to practice retrieving open access content for your research topic.
