Accessibility Group presents... accessibility awareness

Session summary: Join the newly formed Library Accessibility Group for this workshop which will focus on supporting disabled students in Higher Education within a library context. We will be exploring various aspects of accessibility, disability, and inclusion and how to create a more inclusive practice. 

What to expect: Top tips, quizzes, group work using personas and discussion. 

Session learning outcomes:  

  • Understand and explore key concepts such as the Social Model of Disability, inclusivity, empathy and compassion, lived experience, and Neurodiversity. 
  • Develop awareness of evolving language and terminology. 
  • Build confidence around supporting and communicating with students. 
  • Practical guidance to support you in your interactions with students, from using hearing loops to finding large print documents.

We have booked an accessible room with movable furniture, natural light and air conditioning. There will be a 10-minute break to allow for the processing of information and comfort break. Please let us know if you need any other adjustments to be put in place.  

This room is accessed via the staircase next to ELG04.  Step-free access is via the main entrance. With air conditioning and natural light.
